Yesterday I celebrated Communion in my parish. As I was distributing the Body of Christ along the rail I came upon a woman, a rock-ribbed Republican if ever there was one. "The Body of Christ, given for you." Immediately next to her was a man, one of the most liberal Democrats in the county. The Body of Christ was given for him, too.
As they got up from the rail, he helped her. She smiled at him.
We had a meeting after services to discuss the frequency of Holy Communion. They voted to have it only twice a month because if you have it too often, it isn't special.

Oh wait, I do know who you are referring to. I read it again and, duh ... There aren't that many liberal Democrats in Lyon County (except me) and I wasn't helping any Republicans up from the rail. So I think I know who this is. (And now you're wondering: Didn't I see Jennifer campaigning for Mike Huckabee???? She calls herself liberal???? I can explain: Huckabee and Obama have more in common than the average politico might think.) Liberals love Jesus, too.
So very true. We get so wrapped up in the liberal and conservative world, especially during these times, that we forget how special it is to be forgiven and to enjoy that meal with God and our community. And we forget that Jesus died for everyone... yep... everyone. Even Obama and McCain. And Palin and that other dude... (I don't really follow politics!!) But thanks for reminding us all.
